Original Antique French 1890s Watercolor Costume Design of German Burgomaster

This is a lovely French titled Watercolor for a costume design of a German Burgomaster Burgemeister means Mayor or Chief Magistrate of a German town. The mayor is wearing a late medieval or renaissance costume with a fur trimmed cape, black cap and a purse hanging from his belt.  The drawing is most likely from the 1890s, but could also date to the early 20th century. Please note that this watercolor is titled in French at the lower left base in cursive black in (faded to dark brown due to oxidation) "Bourgmeister Allemande" (German Burgomaster or Mayor).

Measurements: 3 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches 

 

Condition: Very good condition. Minor stains. No visible creases. Please see photos
