Original Antique Pencil Drawing of Zangberg Cloister (Monastery), Bavaria, Germany. Hand Inscribed and Dated 1884. This is a lovely drawing view of Zanberg Cloister and the surrounding town. The image depicts the view from the top looking down over the town. It is titled at the lower central part "Kloster Zangberg" at the lower right corner in pencil, and there is an inscription or signature in German and the date "1884" in pencil at the top right hand corner. This would have been a popular scenic imagery to paint during excursions and travels. 
Zangberg is a municipality in the district of Mühldorf in Bavaria in Germany. The village is determined by the 13th Century medieval building of the present monastery of St. Joseph. From 1862 until 1941 the Visitandines, also known as the Salesian Sisters, had a school for aristocratic girls, whose most famous pupil was probably Zita of Bourbon-Parma, later Empress of Austria as the wife of Charles I of Austria.


Measurements: 12 1/2 x 18 1/8 inches

Condition: Very good condition. Possibly torn from a sketchbook- as you can see remnants of it having been pulled from a binding on the edge. Some writing and stains on verso. Please see photos.
