Japanese Original Black and Red Ink Drawing Circa 1800 and is a depiction of the  Urashima Tarō Fairy Tale.  I believe that this is a depiction of The Urashima Taro tale, because it features a man sitting on a turtle which is not a common image. There are several men and women wearing important headgear and jewelry, so I am assuming that this may be the court of princess Otohime at the Dragon Palace. This story dates at least to the 8th century and is featured in several literary sources. Urashima Tarō (浦島 太郎) is the protagonist of a Japanese fairy tale (otogi banashi), who in a typical modern version is a fisherman rewarded for rescuing a turtle, and carried on its back to the Dragon Palace (Ryūgū-jō) beneath the sea. There he is entertained by the princess Otohime[a] as a reward. He spends what he believes to be several days with the princess, but when he returns to his home village, he discovers he has been gone for at least 100 years. Source: Wikipedia, 2023
