This is a Canadian National / Grand Trunk Western U-3-a  4-8-4 HO scale locomotive imported by Oriental Limited and made by Samhongsa in South Korea.

The engine is new in the original box .

These were made in 1982 and only 125 were produced.

I bought this engine new in 1982 ( 40 years ago ! ) and it has been in the original box since then. I never ran it as I did not have a layout.

Historical Note:
The U-3-a engines were built for the Grand Trunk Western by ALCO in 1927 and ran on the GTW until 1942 when they were sent to the Canadian National to help the war effort when the U-3-b engines were delivered. The U-3-a engines ran on the CN right up to the end of steam in 1960.

If you are a CN modeller of the 1940's to 1960's these engine are right for you.

If you are a GTW modeller these engines only ran on the GTW from 1927 to 1942. After 1942 the GTW ran the later ALCO built U-3-b engines.

See my other listings for a U-3-b engine .

Until about a couple of years ago I was Grand Trunk Western fan # 1 and collected everything GTW, Models, books, photos, negatives, blueprints....in short , everything GTW. When I lived in Michigan I roamed the GTW from 1970 to the mid 1990's taking photos of everything.

I was always a closet Pennsy guy and since moving out here in PA I decided to go to the "Dark Side" and go PRR ........so I'm selling my 50+ year collection of GTW stuff and more will be listed in the near future.
