ABOUT OUR PRODUCT

Rent - A - Hive Swarm Lures are a highly effective method for trapping feral colonies and an inexpensive way to increase the population of your apiary. Bee Bait works by attracting a large number of scout bees which are sent out in preparation of swarming, significantly increasing the odds that your bait hives will catch a new colony. The all natural components of Bee Bait mimic the Queen  pheromone which further enhances the likelihood that swarms will stick with your bait hive once attracted.

Just a few drops of Bee Bait is potent enough to attract swarms to your bait hive and will last for up to three months. Our  bottle provides enough swarm lure to bait 50 hives.

We take great pride in the packaging of our products and use only the highest quality ingredients and premium containers, ensuring that any unused Bee Bait can last for multiple seasons. Placing the product in a temperature controlled environment will help extend the life. DO NOT FREEZE.

Steps To Preparing Your Swarm Trap

 1. Selecting a Swarm Trap

  • Swarm trap volume should be approximately 40 liters (about the size of a standard deep hive box.
  • Provide a cover or other structure to keep the inside of the trap dry.
  • The entrance of the trap should be 1 ¼ inches in diameter or 1 ½ to 2 square inches. The shape of the opening is not important. However, be sure to place 1/2 inch screen inside the hole to prevent birds from taking up residence.
  • Entrance should be positioned adjacent to the floor of the hive.

 2. Baiting the Trap

  • Add frames with foundation to your swarm trap.
  • Put three to four drops of Bee Bait Swarm Lure on a cotton ball and place in a ziploc storage bag and close it partially. Set the bag containing swarm lure on top of the frames and secure with a tac.
  • Place one or two additional drops near the entrance of the trap. Add more drops to the entrance once every few weeks.

 3. Positioning the Swarm Trap

  • Place the swarm trap 8 ‘– 10’ above the ground.
  • The trap should be situated in a shaded location like in a tree and the tree should be at least 10 inches in diameter to limit how much it sways in the wind.
  • If possible place the trap so that the entrance faces south.
  • Along a tree line or adjacent to a canal or stream.
Use your dropper to put a little on entrance of trap! & Drop the remaining vile into trap.

Product Details

Description

It’s swarming season! When the weather warms up, and outdoor activity is encouraged for honeybees, you may notice swarms in your bee yard. Spring is usually when bees swarm and look for new real estate to call home for the upcoming seasons. When the time comes, you will want to be prepared for any swarm heading your way.

As scout bees split from the hive to look for a new home, our Swarm Lure emits a slow-release blend of pheromones that attracts the swarm and entices the honeybees to declare the Swarm Trap a suitable new home for the bee colony. Home sweet home, at last. Swarms can easily be caught with lures and swarm traps in an empty hive in your bee yard. The more, the merrier!

Swarm lures are an effective, hands-off way to attract more bees to your bee yard. Once you get the bees in the trap, cross your fingers that they’re impressed with the new home and decide to stay.

NOTE: This product consists of one individual vial.

The lure comes in a Vile. Use one vile per trap. Store unused lures in recallable pouch. Each lure will last approximately one swarm season in the trap.
