A print taken from William Henry Pine's "Costumes of Great Britain." Plate number 12. Men delivering ale from a brewery.

The publisher William Miller commissioned Pyne to assemble the book "Costumes...." which eventually emerged in 1808, with 60 full-page plates illustrating the costumes and trades of the people of Great Britain, from Knights to Mayors to those in the labouring classes. A miniature edition was issued in 4 volumes by Ackerman in 1827. A most important record of Britain in the early 19th century.

This print offered here is a full-sized example, and it depicts men in their aprons, carrying a barrel of ale , with the dray cart and horse behind. The publishers imprint can be seen at the bottom: "Published by William Miller, Albemarle Street, Jan. 1, 1805."
