This is a rare custom handmade Tabreez rug made in the Middle East for a North East Florida family.Saint Augustine , Jacksonville,Daytona area of Florida. It is an historical piece depicting the lives of the Timucua Native American Indian tribe that inhabited these areas of Florida. The Timucua tribe numbered in the thousands for centuries before becoming extinct due to the early Spanish and French settlers. This handmade rug which is the quality of a fine tapestry is a custom made tribute to the Timucua Indians. The Timucua were killed off by the settlers and some merged with the Seminole tribes and some to Cuba. Paintings and engravings were done by LeMoyne and Debry which shows heavy influence of native headdress and everyday hunting techniques . This heavy rug measures 7’6” length and 7’ width.
