Downed Aircrew's Silk-Rayon
Escape & Evasion Map
for Northern Europe
by
Bartholomew Maps c.1941-44
A cracking post-1941) example of an
RAF Escape & Evasion Map,
it covers the main Occupied/Axis European countries that
RAF bomber & fighter aircrew shot down by the
Luftwaffe or Flak would find themselves in.
Included are Germany, Holland, France & Austria in the West and
Hungary, Poland & Czechoslovakia to the East..
and of course, every downed airman’s desired destination,
neutral Switzerland.
Measuring approx 18” x 14” when opened and 4.5” x 3” when folded a shown,
the towns featured are Danzig at the top and Budapest at the bottom
and across from Dusseldorf & Essen on the left side to Lwow on the right.
Air Ministry-marked and printed on one side in black & white,
(later Maps were in colour &
double-sided),
these classic, hemmed, early-war RAF escape maps,
(produced by Bartholomew for M.19),
show all country boundaries for the year 1941 and
were issued to all aircrew from 1941 up until
D-Day 6th
June 1944.
In a lovely, very clean condition, it comes in its fully folded, (un-ironed) condition
exactly as acquired, to make for a superb example of these iconic
early WW-II RAF Escape & Evasion Maps.
