This is the front side only of a 60 lb Arm & Hammer wooden box before they used the term baking soda in their name. Saleratus is bicarbonate of soda & Dr Church & John Dwight sold it commercially starting in 1846. When Dr Church retired, his 2 sons formed Church & Co. in 1867 adopted the “Arm & Hammer” logo at that time. It became al symbol of quality, which is still recognized today.

This box face retains its finger joints. The piece measures 19 3/8” by 7 3/4”. The label is painted on, not a paper label. The graphics, colors, & patina are very good. It does have a modern adaptation, that being the addition of wooden pegs (keys? jewelry?). 1867 to late 1800s.
