Getting the "right" exposure can be challenging in many lighting conditions - especially at night - because your camera's light meter is designed to make the overall scene look 18% grey.
  • At night or in low light there's a wide range of lighting your meter can't accurately assess -- from moonlight, city lights, outdoor lights, floodlights, campfires, etc.
  • Daytime shots can be tricky due to variable lighting or the colors of the subject or scene, requiring exposure adjustments to a camera's light meter readings.

This handy "slide chart" will help. To use it, you simply:

  1. Align the type of scene you're shooting with the ISO Setting/Film Speed.
  2. Select a recommended shutter speed & aperture combination (shown in the adjacent window).
