This magnificent heavy gauge solid silver ladle was made by the greatsilver maker Thomas Chawner in 1773-4. (Re Grimwade 2718, p 194 - 15.10.1773).

Its long elegant handle is perfectly curved and entirely complements the sweeping curves of the beautiful shell bowl.  There is no monogram on the handle.  The hallmark is clear. It measures 34.5cms (just over 13.5”) in length.  It weighs 179 gms.  This is a rare piece for the serious collector of Georgian silver.

It is in superb condition for its 250 years: no repairs or restoration.  There is a slight surface split in the metal in the hallmark above the King's  head and a tiny hole but it is only a surface one and probably due to cleaning in the past.  This can be seen on the photos.

Postal charges are based on the weight of the the ladle, fully packed.  I always, as a matter of policy, use a ‘signed for’ and ‘tracked’ postal option and insure for the full value. Following bad experiences, I do not use couriers, finding the Royal Mail much more reliable.

I aim to keep the postage as low as possible, commensurate with the demands of safety and security and I always return any postage inadvertently overcharged, as will be clear from my feedback.  I will combine postage provided that it is safe to do so.
