1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
For consignment, a 1963 Corvette Roadster Convertible. This car presents in nice condition in Daytona Blue, and has a replacement small block V8 in 327ci format It can be driven year round if you wish as it comes with a matching hardtop. Classic split bumper, shark like lines, hidden headlamps and powder coated wheels for this small nimble war ship.
Exterior
Duntov was in his radical mode when he designed this car. Sleek lines, thin pointed body panels, and split bumpers lead the way for this beautiful automobile. Hidden headlights and chromed louvers in the hood are cues that this is a 1963 version. In the front quarter is the Corvette cove but stylized to be dual rectangular openings. The wheel wells are flat on the top and their protrusions continue through the car at the mid line with a V crease that runs to the back of the car, creating the pointed slightly curved downward rear. A stainless steel side rocker panel is on in lieu of any side pipes, and in back the thin V shaped design houses dual round tail lights framed below with another pair of split bumpers. On top is a clean canvas convertible in white. There is a small puncture in its field. The car also comes with a matching Daytona Blue hard top in nearly unused condition which has a new headliner. 15-inch chrome wheel coverings with faux knockoff cross flag badged hubs are wrapped in good condition thin whitewall rubber.
Interior
As with these gen 2 models, the dash is now a dual arch blue vinyl version with a center "post" that runs to the hump in the floor. Within this post is a vertical mounted radio, a few knobs and pulls, and a large clock. On the passenger's side is the glovebox, and on the driver's side is the cluster of round instrumentation in a black faux leather textured field. A blue plastic factory rimmed steering wheel is topping the original column. On the top of the hump is a Hurst shifter within a patinaed aluminum ribbed console covering. The seats present nicely in their blue vinyl bomber style and blue tuck and roll and some smooth vinyl is also on the door panels. Dark blue non faded carpeting floods the floors.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a circa 1964-1967 327ci V8 which our consignor states is a 1965 L79 warranty replacement block but the stamping pad has been machined so there is no evidence to back up this claim. It now has Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor feeding it, but the original factory carb has been retained. On the back is a T10 4-speed manual transmission with a 3.36 posi rear axle turning the rear tires.
Undercarriage
Some invasive rust and metal rot can be noted on the left frame rail in front of the rear tire of this car. The right side has been repaired. Some areas have been painted over, but holes remain. The car has all wheel drum brakes, dual exhaust and this was the first year for independent rear suspension with transverse leaf springs. In front are independent coil springs.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth idler. Pressing the accelerator made this car come to life and on the test track it showed us nice acceleration, good handling and smooth shifting with an easy clutch. The clock and radio are not operational.
An overall good condition car with an era correct replacement engine, and an Edelbrock carburetor. The interior is looking very much original and has a slight overall patina. The engine bay is clean and you just cannot get any better with this slicing through the air design. A Sting Ray/Shark looker.
