1977 Pontiac Grand Prix Hardtop

Pontiac's upscale, sporty car that offers full-size comfort along with sporty looks, spirited performance and all the whistles and bells, and the purveyor of the "wide track".  We have on consignment, an always garage kept 1977 version of this large piece of Detroit iron in standard trim which is presenting in overall good condition.  A great end of the Colonnade era with traditional Pontiac beak, dual headlights and sweeping sexy lines have this, in my opinion, as one of the best-looking models of the Grand Prix offering.  Not sold on this yet?  How about 61,974 title verified actual miles, 4 purported owners, the correct drivetrain and let's sweeten the pot with a rarely seen black on black theme.  Now we're talkin' Pontiac in a serious way.

Due to varying emissions control devices being removed, please check with your state, county, local or provincial motor vehicle department to verify the ability to legally register this vehicle in your area***

Exterior
A complete reworking of the front header and bumper highlights this 1977 Grand Prix, which was the final year for the 1973-vintage body shell that was set to be replaced by a downsized GP for 1978.  Up front the parking lamps are positioned between the quad headlamps and the previous year's waterfall grille was replaced by a narrower one that extends into the lower portion of the bumper.  These grilles flank a traditional Pontiac beak and down low a clean and shiny chrome bumper splits the twin grilles just perfectly.  A trim tag matching coating of Starlite Black lusciously covers this steel slab sided car which appears to have been dipped in it.  Some light hazing of the finish is noted but no rust or rot is seen.  Arrow-like pointed body lines are abundant on the top surfaces, like the sharply pointed hood and veed rear glass, to the trunk deck which follows suit and takes cues from the front with another V pointed rear panel, with underlying bumper.  The taillights are neatly embedded above the rear bumper and the styling is like nothing to ever be duplicated by an auto manufacturer.  A shiny rocker trim runs from well to well, and the wells take from it and are surrounded by thin chromed trim.  Just above on the beltline we note gold pinstriping that follows the undulating body sides nicely.  Pontiac Rally II wheels in 15-inch format are wrapped in staggered width BF Goodrich raised white letter radials for that period perfect look.

Interior
Looking into a very clean and well-preserved interior wrapped in clean and mean black with plenty of factory options.  The driver's door panel is near showroom and contains a chrome actuator, window crank and rear seat ashtray along with a black leather pull and some wood applique dressing up the padded black vinyl.  Seating also in black and has a mixture of tuck and broadcloth inserts and smooth broadcloth bolsters complete with pristine piping and very little fading of the bolsters.  Some buttoning is on the upper back of the split front bench and in the rear is a matching pattern bench.  The dash is all original and very clean with a bevy of gauges and warning lamps added in at the factory all within a clean applique backdrop.  Sitting below the dash in more applique is the factory AM stereo and above are the round vents and the "Radial Tuned Suspension" plaque.  Clean deep pile black carpet floods the floors and a tight puffy headliner hangs above.  Not to be left out is the V-shaped trunk with its factory splatter paint and vinyl liner.

Drivetrain
Lifting the long steel hood reveals the factory correct and numbers matching 301ci V8 sitting within a very clean engine bay.  This is topped with a 2-barrel carburetor, and backed by the correct and numbers matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission.  A 10-bolt rear axle is on the way back.  Hints of Pontiac blue shine through in the bay under all the soft and supple hoses, wiring and ducting.

Undercarriage
Some light surface rust is noted throughout but certainly nothing to be concerned about.  Power disc brakes are on the front of the car and power drums for the rear and for the Radial Tuned Suspension, we see an independent coil springs up front and a 4 link and coil springs in the rear.  A dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers is on for the exhale and is looking just fine, but is sans the catalytic converter.

Drive-Ability
This car started right up effortlessly and was ready to roll to our test track.  It handled beautifully with the radial tuned suspension and had nice smooth acceleration and automatic shifting.  Overall it provided a comfortable ride with everything working as it should.

It's not often we get one of these cars through the doors of our Hallowed Halls, but today we offer you this Pontiac, the last of its breed, with beautiful pointed styling, a correct drivetrain, low low miles, and low ownership count.  This one will not last long here at Classic Auto Mall.
