1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

For consignment, a 1980 version of the Camaro in full Z28 trim.  This car was purchased by our consignor in 2010 with 37,290 actual miles on the odometer, and has since been garage kept and driven a mere 1,404 miles in the 13 years of our consignors ownership, for a grand total of 38,694 title verified miles on the odometer.  The car remains nearly all original so states our consignor with its original interior, 350ci V8 and 4-speed transmission and is a pleasure to drive.  With the majority of these cars thrashed and trashed by teenagers or succumbing to the Northeast tin worm, this car is a splendid rarity gracing our Hallowed Halls, showing as nearly showroom new.  Read on and enjoy the engineering of a driving legend.

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

Exterior
With its 3-piece front spoiler wrapping around the front of this car, along with the body matching crash bumper with integrated single round headlights, outward V white ribbed grille shape, functional rear facing scooped hood, the Camaro has come into its own with styling for 1980.  This car bathed in the factory correct white and has beautiful graphics dressing up the vented fenders and doors in multiple shades of blue.  This highlighting, along with a black inlay carries through the hood and white spats grace the front of the rear wheel wells.  Chrome trimmings have been kept to a minimum with only door locks, windshield and door glass trimmed in chrome, all the remaining trimmings are blackened.  The exterior panels are straight, rust free, and have very nicely painted surfaces all around.  Z28 badging is on the tail panel, and gaps are noted as well minded.  Polished lip with white insert 15-inch SS rally wheels are slapped on all 4 corners, and this beauty has the "look" that every Camaro owner desires.

Interior
Nicely stitched paneled doors are inside and showing off in dark blue and are highlighted with chrome bezels for the door releases and mirror joystick.  Keeping in theme, the front buckets are dark blue vinyl and have deep tuck and roll stitching for inserts.  The bolsters and high backs with integrated headrests are all smooth dark blue vinyl.  A 2 plus 2 rear seat in the same pattern is looking mostly unused and in excellent condition.  The square and rectangle design genre is abundant utilizing some machine turned aluminum-like material for the cluster with dual round gauges in the center and surrounding smaller rounds at the corners.  A/C is noted on the heater control slides of this car along with the factory AM/FM stereo and rear window defogger toggle just above.  The original steering wheel badged in Z28 with its 4 splines appears as nearly new and fronts the dash atop a tilt column.  A vinyl textured center console providing storage and a place for the factory chrome armed shifter, is racing between the buckets and towards the 2 plus 2's in the back.  Dark blue carpet floods the floors and a tight blue felt headliner, totally seamless, is floating above.

Drivetrain
Prior to flipping the hood, I could feel the Heartbeat of America, and opening up the hood witnessed it in all its blue block glory and factory parts.  A correct and original 350ci V8 sports ribbed valve covers, an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold and a 4-barrel carburetor under the functional cowl induction style air cleaner assembly.  On back is the numbers matching Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual transmission which sends power rearward to a 3.08 geared 10-bolt axle.  Just a beauty to look at...Lub dub, lub, dub...

Undercarriage
A mix of gray and white and some surface rust provide the backdrop for this undercarriage.  Strong steel for the flooring and unibody give solid attachment points for the independent coil spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension fore and aft.  Power disc brakes are on the front and power drums are on the rear.  Dual exhaust, sans a catalytic converter, snakes their way down from the clean blue engine and feeds into Turbo style mufflers before ending in angle cut tips just under the rear bumper.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up, and all was good on the warmup to the test track.  Here it handled well and had smooth acceleration, and straight bias free panic stopping.  Steering was tight, and the overall ride was comfortable, even at cruising speed.  I did not attempt the "moonshiner's" turn but wanted to just in deference to Jim Rockford!  What's better is all functions, save for the clock not keeping time and the passenger's power window being finicky, were operating as they should.

If you are looking for a Camaro in classic early 80's style, stop here, as this is it.  All rust free, darn near all original, and all running just perfectly.  Great graphics and a fine runner, just showroom condition here in 2023, right out of 1980.
