1969 Honda CD175, good runner tidy
example with V5C
Here is a
very well preserved example of one of the amazing new Honda’s that were taking
over the lightweight market in the late 60’s.
It didn’t
take long for the Japanese manufacturers to put an end to production of
anything smaller than 500cc here in the UK. When you compare what was on offer
it’s not that difficult to understand why.
Oil tight,
twin cylinder, ultra smooth , quiet , easy to start, reasonably quick,
indicators and good lights, good brakes, arguably good modern styling etc.
This example
starts and runs very well. No smoke, engine sounds great especially when
pulling hard. Everything works, handling is great with great brakes. 4-speed
gearbox excellent, clutch good. Charging system working properly, (checked with
ammeter), all lights work, speedo working also.
It’s a real
fun little bike to ride and something a bit different these days, a genuine UK
registered machine that has survived in good condition.
The bike
comes with V5C. Registration number LCL 87H is believed to be the original.
Date of registration in V5C is 2nd October 1969.
Frame number
CD1751021623 & Engine number CD175E 1021853 both match the V5C doc and are
genuine untampered factory stampings.
The bike is
registered as an Historic Vehicle, therefore road tax is free and it is MOT
exempt.
There is a
Clymer manual for the CD175 included.
Cosmetically
the bike is in very tidy and presentable all round condition. It is a used bike
not a show bike and is a long way from concours.
The enamel
on frame looks like stove enamel and is excellent quality and condition. Tank
has good paint with excellent chrome side panels. It has been linered inside at
some point and this may eventually need attention.
No fin
damage on engine.
Both wheel
rims have decent but not as new chrome. There are tiny flacks on close
inspection.
Spokes front
and rear are stainless but nipples are standard steel and have light rust.
Front tyre
is virtually as new IRC. Rear is a Mitas also as new.
Down pipes
and silencers are very good but not as new. They have light patina in the
chrome.
The
crankcases have had silver paint applied at some point and most of it has come
off, this looks a bit scruffy on close inspection.
The seat is
very nice having recently been recovered.
Recorded
mileage is 16051,but cannot be verified of course.
All in all
this is an eye catching lightweigh Honda, easy to handle, easy to start and fun
to ride.
Don’t miss
this classic late 60’s revelation!
