The Olds Recording is a 0.495/0.510" dual bore trombone. This example is from the earlier LA period (1950s). It has a red brass bell and a duo-octagonal slide. These instruments need a counterweight, so I added a soldered-on Olds counterweight. With this, the balance is very nice, and this is the most comfortable to hold trombone I have ever held. The Recording's ergonomic gusset grips add to this.

This is another trombone with a very powerful sound. It has the fast articulation of a small bore, with a darker mellower sound of a medium bore. Great for jazz soloing and even lead in the concert band. These are great playing instruments that don't command a big price. In the day the Recording was the flagship model for Olds, and these are some of the best constructed instruments you can find from any maker in any era.

This instrument is a great candidate for refinishing. Refinished Recordings are in my opinion the best looking instruments ever built.
