"Skate 3" for the Xbox 360 picks up right where "Skate 2" left off.
After having become the top skater in San Vanelona, your character
proceeds to Port Carverton to continue being the champion. However, what
he finds shocks him as this new city is the complete opposite in terms
of culture. Your character lets his ego get the best of him and goes for
a jump that no one else has successfully nailed. Unfortunately, your
character botches this jump and becomes the laughing stock of the city.
Fueled by his desire to be the greatest skating mogul, you vow to
conquer this new city. Your goal in "Skate 3" is to assemble a team of
the best skaters in the city and to prove your superiority. The title
had an original release date of May 11, 2010, one year after the
previous title in the franchise."Skate 3" focuses on realism rather than
outlandish skating antics. Your character can't jump 10 feet in the air
or pull off an 1800 with ease. Instead, you'll be pulling off tricks
that real skaters use through the analog sticks on the controller. Each
use of the analog stick requires precise movement that resembles how a
real skater's feet would act on the board. For example, a trick that
requires a skater's foot to go from front to back would have you moving
the stick from front to back. For newcomers, this Xbox 360 game has a
full tutorial area that will teach you the basics. You'll learn how to
jump, trick, and grind off a variety of objects. This tutorial mode is
brought to you by actor Jason Lee reprising his role as Coach Frank.
This game is the first in the series to feature difficulty modes as
well. The Easy difficulty mode is a lot more lenient in the timing
required to pull off tricks whereas the Hardcore mode makes the timing
much more precise. The city of Port Carverton is a skater's paradise
with the entire city rallying behind the sport. You can skate on
anything in the city from train tracks to monuments. Unlike the previous
games, this new city is covered in bright, vivid colors, and the
citizens cheer you on. There are three different areas of the city:
downtown, university, and industrial. Each area features unique
challenges and obstacles to overcome. Each mission in the game is
different and will keep you on your toes. In some missions, you'll pull
off moves to gain points. Other missions will task you with doing
specific moves for a photo shoot. Along the way, you'll meet famous
sports athletes like Pat Duffy and Chris Cole. You can even create your
own skate parks within the city. With over 40 hours of content in the
single player mode, you can play this game for hours at a time. When
you've mastered the single player campaign, you can take on other
players online. This title features an array of online modes, including
Own the Lot and Domination. With some use of crude humor, this title
earned a rating of T from the ESRB. This title from Black Box and
Electronic Arts is a love letter to fans of the sport. The realistic
gameplay from EA Black Box combined with the stunning graphics can
create a must play experience. No Xbox skateboarding game collection may
be complete without this video game.
