Description

Ovation created a sensation in the 80s and 90s with its groundbreaking design and thick-core electric sound. The Super Adamas, which went into production in 1976, had a carbon graphite top, a revolutionary spec that overturned the conventional wisdom of acoustic guitars, and reigned as the top model of the Ovation brand. Musicians who were active in the 80's and 90's loved this Super Adamas. This time we have in stock the Custom Legend 1119, a pure aco-type without PU, which was produced as the pinnacle of wood-top models even before the Adamas was born!

AAA Sitka spruce top, Rilaccord body, mahogany/maple 5-piece neck, ebony fingerboard, engraved walnut bridge, 44.3mm nut, deep bowl body with 25.25" scale. The Custom Legend was produced from 1974 as a higher-end model of the Legend, but the Custom Legend of this era is characterized by its upper truss rod and engraved truss rod cover. The slightly thicker triangular grip, which is unique to Ovation, is not to everyone's liking, but it is very popular among players who mainly play electric guitars, and the sight of many guitarists of rock bands active in the 1980s setting up their guitars on stage with special stands so that they could play them right away is still vivid today. The engraved bridge and Avalon trim, which were also incorporated into the Super Adamas model that would be born in 1976, give the instrument a high-class appearance!

The sound is the distinctive Ovation sound, with a thumping low tone! Ovation guitars until around the 80's had a much heavier body than those from the 90's onward, which gave them a thicker, punchier sound. This is probably the reason why many Ovation fans value the pre-90s Ovations so much. When played with a flat pick, the deep bowl produces a powerful sound with a thick, resonant core, and when fingered, it produces a grainy sound with good sound separation, allowing you to enjoy Ovation's unique raw acoustic sound in any genre or style of playing. You can enjoy Ovation's unique raw acoustic sound in all genres and playing styles! By the way, a contact PU has been added afterwards and a jack has been added beside the endpin, but the PU is disconnected and no sound comes out when connected to an amp.

The condition of the instrument overall is still quite clean, but there is one crack/repair under the bridge, which runs along the bracing from under the bridge on the second string to the end of the body. It has been repaired by gluing and reinforced from the back, so there is no problem to use it in the future. The repair seems to have been done immediately after the crack, and the repair is so clean that it is not noticeable at a glance. There are some other minor scratches and some paint peeling around the sound hole due to picking, but there is almost no rippling on the top, which is common for Ovation.

The neck condition is also good and straight, and the current string height is 2.6mm on the 6th string side and 2.1mm on the 1st string side at the 12th fret, which is the best setting. There are currently two thicker shims under the bridge, so the string height can be adjusted as desired by removing and inserting the shims under the bridge. The frets are a little worn in some areas, mainly in the low frets, but even in the most worn areas, about 80-90% of the original height remains.

Avalon inlays shine brightly on this highly coveted Custom Legend! The label is also an early gold plated gem!

The case comes with the original brown hard case, but please note that the string that acts as a stopper on the lid is broken, and when opened, the case will open fully.
