Currier Serial #5402

Illinois Watch Co. 18 size 11 jewel keywind and keyset Currier pocket watch.  An early example with 4-digit serial number of 5402.  Movement has typical gilt finish and is fronted by a sunk-seconds enamel "Illinois Springfield Watch Co." marked dial.  Watch is housed in a 4 ounce coin silver drum style case that has a hunting style rear lid that is released from a latch by depressing the button on the case pendant.  Movement serial number is 5402.

Started running when wound but stopped twice before continuing on and proceeding to gain about 2.5 minutes when run for 24 hours, and I think likely this watch hasn't seen any type of servicing in many years.  Movement has some typical scattered surface marks and spots.  Dial has a short glaze scratch below its signature area and dial seconds-register has likely been re-secured as it is seated a small bit out of index.  Hour hand and minute hands are different styles as hour hand has a polished spade while minute hand does not.  Case is showing its many years of use with its rear engraving detail substantially reduced, with some scattered dings and nicks, and with its pendant button having a missing piece to its rear side and a puncture to its front side.  Case rear opens wide of 90 degrees to the approximately 110 degree position.  Thick glass crystal is cloudy with many scratches and nicks.
