Description

The "Squire" brand of "Fender Japan" was born in 1982.

The early models have received high praise in recent years due to the use of high-quality wood.

The serial number is often used to determine the year of manufacture.

It is well known that the "Squire" model up until mid-'84 had a "JV" + 5-digit serial number, just like Fender Japan.

The "A" serial number of this machine, along with the "SQ" serial number (exclusively for Squires), was prepared in the middle of 1984, immediately after the "JV" period, so it is essentially equivalent to the JV period. It has quality.

Also, until around 1984, the only Fender Japan products that were given the "Fender" brand name were models equipped with USA-made pickups (for the American Vintage Series).

Until that time, models equipped with domestically produced pickups and with lower prices were sold under the "Squier" brand.

Therefore, if you are not particular about the "Fender" brand or are not particular about USA pickups, choosing a Squier brand model may be a good idea in terms of cost performance.

However, Squire's SST-30 series is a model released in the low price range, so adjustments at the time of shipment tend to be lenient.

Only after complete adjustment can you experience its superior quality.

Please be aware of this.

This machine is a "VWH" (vintage white) finish model of the "SST-30" which is a replica of the 1962 Stratocaster.

There are some small scratches, but the overall appearance is very beautiful.

However, there are paint cracks on the left and right sides of the neck joint of the body, which are common on Fender Japan models from this period (the cracks are only in the paint film, not reaching the wood). .

Most of the main parts are in original condition (as when new).

However, the original white pickup cover from this period has become noticeably discolored (brownish) and looks strange if left as is, so parts with a moderate amount of yellowing are currently installed.

The original brownish pickup cover also remains.

In addition, the block part at the bottom of the tremolo unit has been replaced with a recent one (made by Gotoh of the same material and standard) (the tremolo unit plate and bridge saddle remain original).

This also has the original block, but there is some damage to the tremolo arm insertion hole.

The tremolo arm (stick part only) is a replacement item.

The tremolo spring cover (back panel) is also original, and it is rare that this original item, which has yellowed significantly, remains (though I think most people will remove it and use it).

The string nut has been replaced with one made from unbleached beef bone soaked in oil.

The original is made of plastic called Yuria, so this replacement is more practical.

Other main parts such as pegs, pickguard, and bridge are original.

The screws are also original.

Electrical parts such as pickups, pots, switches, and jacks are also original.

They can be used normally without any noise or gully.

However, the "DM" series pickup selector switch (DM-50 with 5-stage switch for this model), which was used in domestic models from this period, is prone to contact failure.

Currently, there are no symptoms of poor contact such as scratches or noise on the switch, but it may occur again if the switch is not used for a long time.

In that case, the problem can be recovered by cleaning the contacts, but if the problem frequently occurs, we recommend replacing it with a CRL brand switch.

The neck condition is good, and the details have been fully adjusted, so the string height is as low as that of recent high-end models (approximately 1.1 mm above the 12th fret of the first string), and the sound does not get clogged or choppy. You can play comfortably.

There is plenty of room for tightening the truss rod and nut, so it can accommodate future neck warping.

The frets are original, but the frets are left about 80%. No need to be replaced yet.

A general-purpose soft case is included.
