1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

For consignment, a well sorted '68 Camaro convertible with plenty of performance goodies and new parts from the consignor who's owned it for 25-30 years and is now ready to hand over the fun to the next steward.  It's packing a 327ci V8, (per our consignor), with a consignor stated 350 horsepower and that's plenty of giddy up for some open aired cruising.  Whether it's your Main Street cruise night or Camaro Nationals right here at Classic Auto Mall, your chariot of choice awaits!

Exterior
The cowl tag tells us this was born Matador Red but now sports a two stage coating of Indigo Blue metallic.  It was also born with a black canvas soft top and retains a manual top in black with a glass window today.  Both the paint and the top are in very good condition.  The body panels are smooth, the panel gaps are well minded and the car stands squarely on a set of 15-inch Billet Specialties polished 5-spoke wheels.  A cowl hood and rear spoiler enhance the profile while old school traction bars provide some launch stability.  The metalwork including the front bumper, window trim, door handles, and the side mirror and in fantastic condition.  The rear bumper could benefit from a rechroming as it's pitted.  All lenses, bezels, and light trim pieces are nice.

Interior
Standard black vinyl door panels appear in great shape, no frills here but some textured lines to give some visual interest. The black bucket front seats show no wear and the rear seats look new and that is because they are. The side walls of the back seat pick up on the textured lines and window cranks are available for back occupants to open the rear quarter windows.  A 4 spoke Grant steering wheel replaces what would have been a thin plastic wheel and it shares the column with an AutoGage tachometer with adjustable redline slider.  The dash is otherwise stock with two main gauges and the center stack contains the heater slides, a slot and template where a radio would go, and a triplet of gauges added below for water temp, oil pressure, and volts.  A Hurst shifter comes off the floor surrounded by rubber boot and chrome trim.  The black loop carpet is in good condition.  A plaid pad covers the trunk which is clean.

Drivetrain
Pop the hood and according to our consignor, we're looking at a 327ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on top of a polished Weiand Team G intake manifold.  The transmission is a Borg Warner Super T10 4-speed manual sending the spin back to a 12 bolt rear with 3.55 gears and Moser internals.  MSD ignition provides the spark and Edelbrock supplies the valve covers and air cleaner element.  Spent gas gets routed through headers before heading under the car.  The engine bay is clean and all components are accessible.  Ah, the simple days!

Undercarriage
Very clean and dry underneath and now that we don't have to address faults, let's talk about features, per our consignor.  A Moser equipped rear is in place and the suspension has been replaced including the coil springs in front and multi leaf springs in the rear where traction bars have been added.  The dual exhaust flows from the headers and meets a pair of Flowmaster mufflers then exits without fanfare under the car, before the rear bumper.  The chrome diff cover is a nice touch.

Drive-Ability
Well sorted Camaros are some of our favorite cars and this one checks all the boxes.  It started with a raucous roar and we rolled out to the test loop.  She's got some grunt under there and was raring to go but we kept it cool and made sure everything worked.  With no radio in the dash we're relegated to listening to the engine and exhaust notes, and that's okay by us!  The car moved, turned, and stopped in fine fashion.  We were told the speedometer is not hooked up and confirmed this as well as the odometer not ticking off miles. The wipers are inoperable and there is no parking brake.

Topless Camaros increase the fun factor and here's a great looking runner with all the right ingredients.  Whats better than a car in dark blue with a black top?  This Camaro with your big smile behind the wheel!  Whether it's a beach town, rural country road, or big city parkway, this fine '68 Camaro will fit right in!  If you've always wanted a convertible Camaro from the 60's, this one is worthy of a look.
