TO MOST IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE UGLIEST OLDSMOBILES EVER PRODUCED BACK IN THE DAY, 1958 WAS THE YEAR THAT GM PUT THE MOST CHROME ON THERE CARS ACROSS THE WHOLE OF THE GM BRANDS, BUICK / CADILLAC / CHEVROLET / PONTIAC AND OLDSMOBLE, PARTICUALLY BUICK AND OLDSMOBILE CARS, WHICH I THINK WEAR THE MOST CHROME. AS TIME HAS GONE ON 58 YEAR PRODUCTION GM CARS HAVE SKY ROCKETED IN PRICE DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOVE / DEMAND AND CAR SCENE CULTURES BOTH IN THE US AND OTHER COUNTRIES FOR THEM (THE UNIQUE STYLING AND RAREITY ONE YEAR PRODUCTION). 

THIS PARTICULAR 58 OLDSMOBILE HAS LOTS OF HIGH END FACTORY OPTIONS ON IT, SUCH AS FACTORY AIR CONDITIOING WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN ON ANOTHER 58 OLDSMOBILE AS YET, IT ALSO BOASTS THE HIGHER OUTPUT FACTORY 371 CUBIC INCH 6.1 V8 WITH THE FACTORY UPGRADED J2 TRI POWER 3X 2BBL CARBURETTOR SET UP WHILST STILL WEARING THE ORIGINAL J2 AIR INTAKE ON TOP (WHICH ARE NOT FACTROY REPRODUCED AND CAN FETCH UP TO $1800 - $2000 FOR ONE (IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND AN ORIGINAL ONE NOW !) I BELIEVE ITS THE ONLY J2 AND AND A/C OPTIONED 58 OLDSMOBILE HERE IN THE UK. THAT BEING SAID I THINK THERE IS ONLY AN HANDFUL OF 58 OLDSMOBILES THAT ACTUALLY LIVE HERE IN THE UK. THESE OPTIONS ON THE CAR CAR ALONE MAKE IT EXCLUSIVE AND RARE AS VERY FEW HAD THESE FROM NEW, AS THEY WERE SO EXPENSIVE THAT PEOPLE IN 1958 JUST COULD NOT AFFORD THEM.

THE CAR RUNS / DRIVES AND PERFORMS FAULTLESSLY, THE GUTSY 6.1 V8 HAS PLENTY OF PULL IN IT DUE TO THE BOOSTED 312 HP HIGHER OUTPUT FROM THE J2 TRI POWER OPTION. THE 371 V8 IS MATED TO ITS FACTORY ORIGINAL 4 SPEED HYDRAMATIC AUTO TRANSMISSION, WHICH SHIFTS SMOOTHLY AND QUIETLY. 

THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH FACTORY POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES, MAKING THE CAR EASY TO MANEUVER AND ALSO STOP WELL (BOTH I FIND ARE KIND OF IMPORTANT DRIVING NEEDS AND MUSTS).

CHROME AND BRIGHTWORK ARE AMAZING ! AND ALL THERE IN TACT, FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS HAVE BEEN RE-CHROMED AND GOSH THEY LOOK GOOD ! A BIG CREDIT TO THE CAR. 

INTERIOR TRIM IS LOVELY, AN MOSTLY ALL ORIGINAL, THERE WERE 2 WORN BITS OF VINYL ON THE TOPS OF THE FRONT BENCH SEAT WERE SUN DAMAGE OVER THE YEARS HAD WORN IT AWAY, LUCKLY SMS AUTO FABRICS IN OREGON STILL DO THE ORIGINAL VINYL AND CLOTH FOR THESE CARS, SO I ORDED 1 YARD OF THE NEEDED VINYL AND GOT MY LOCAL CAR / BOAT TRIMMER TO RE-TRIM IT. NOW IT LOOKS AS GOOD AS NEW. ALL CHROME DASH AND INTERIOR TRIMS ARE STUNNING, FEW GAUGES AND BACKING LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING WHEN I GOT THE CAR, SO I GOT THEM SORTED BY THE LOCAL CAR AUTO ELECTRICAN HERE NEAR ME, SO NOW A FULL HOUSE OF DASH LIGHTS, GAUGES AND FOOTWELL LIGHTS, ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS INCLUDING NEMBER PLATE LIGHT AND REAR BACK UP REVERSE LIGHTS ALREADY WORKED.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKETS WERE REPLACED AND SO WERE THE EXHAUST HEAT EXCHANGER UNITS WERE ALSO REPLACED, SO YOU GET A LOVELY SMOOTH SOUND THROUGH THE EXHAUSTS WITHOUT NO BLOWING.

WHEN I BROUHT THE CAR NERALY 3 YEARS AGO, MY GUYS IN TEXAS THAT IVE USED FOR A GOOD 10 YERAS DID ROAD SAFETY CHECKS ON THE CAR, THE BRAKES NEEDED AN OVERHAUL, ALL DRUM BRAKES HAVE BEEN CLEANED / RE-GREASED AND PARTS REPLACED WHERE NEEDED, THE BIG EXPENSIVE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSER SYSTEM HAS BEEN PULLED APART AND RE-BUILT, THIS PART IS ACTUALLY VERY EXPENSIVE TO BUY FROM FUSICK OLDSMOBILE PARTS, I THINK THE UNIT ITSELF IS AROUND $900 ALONE ! BUT NO WORRIES HERE, ITS ALL BEEN DONE, BRAKE SYSTEM WAS ALSO FULLY BLED AND FLUID WAS REPLACED. THE BRAKES NOW ARE SUPER SHARPE ! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE SMOOTHENED OUT SINCE IVE BEEN DRIVING IT ABOUT.

THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS ABSOLUTLY UNBELIEVABLE ! COMPLETLY ORIGINAL WITH NO WELDING / CUTTING OR RUST AT ALL ! CHASSIS IS ALSO BEAUTIFULLY SRAIGHT, SUSPENSION AND BUSHES ARE TIGHT, YES I HAVE ALL PICTURES TO PROVE THIS, ALL SILL PANELS ARE ORIGINAL WITH NO DENTING OR CRUSHED AREAS, THEY STILL HAVE ALL FACTORY DRAINAGE LOUVERS IN PLACE AND RUBBER DRIP TABS, THAT THESE CARS HAVE FROM FACTORY ! HONESTLY ITS BRILLIANT TO SEE, I WELCOME YOU TO COME AND SEE HOW AN OLD CAR CAN LOOK UNDERNEATH FOR THIS AGE.

THE CAR COMES WITH WORKSHOP MANUAL BOOK AND SERVICING MANUAL BOOK, THE OLDSMOBILE ACCESSORIES BOOK AND THE 58 OLDSMOBILE SERVICE POLICY BOOKLET. THE MAINTENANCE BOOK SHOWS YOU A FULL IN DEPTH SET OF DIAGRAMS OF ALL ASPECTS OF THE CAR, FROM WIRING TO ENGINE / GEARBOX TORQUE AND BOLT READINGS TO SERVING OILS AND FILTERS, SO YOU CAN REALLY UNDERSTAND THE INNS AND OUTS OF THIS CAR, FEW OTHER BOOKS AND MAGS THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAS KEPT OVER HIS 20 ODD YEARS OF OWNERSHIP WITH THE CAR ARE ALSO THERE. THE CARS WIDTH IS ABOUT 6.5FT WIDE AND 16FT LONG, THIS IS A QUESTION I GET ASKED A LOT "WILL IT FIT IN MY GARAGE" THE ANSWER IS YES THE SMALLER BODY 88 CAR WILL FIT IN A STANDARD SIZE GARAGE. THE 98 BIGGER BROTHER IS ABOUT 19FT LONG SO YOU MAY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THAT ONE.

OK SO THE HONEST POINTS ( IF ONLY EVERYONE WAS THIS HONEST ) 

I HAVE NOW GOT THE CAR BOOKED IN AROUND NOVEMBER TIME HAVING FOUND A GREAT GUY WHO SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIX ANYTING AMERICAN FROM CARS / TRUCKS TO JUKEBOXES, TO HAVE THE A/C SYSTEM LOOKED AT. BUT ITS CURRENTLY NOT WORKING - THE FACTORY A/C WILL NEED ATTENTION AND SOMEONE THAT UNDERSTANDS OLD SCHOOL A/C SYSTEMS, ALL PARTS ARE THERE AND IN GOOD SHAPE, BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING, BELTS AND PULLEYS ARE ALL CONNECTED UP AND TURN FREELY SO IM WONDERING IF A SIMPLE RE-GAS WILL ACTUALLY SORT IT OUT ? BUT I HAVE NO CLUE IN HOW YOU RE-GAS THIS OLD STYLE A/C SYSTEM, BLOWERS ALL WORK INSIDE THE CAR SO ITS HALF WAY THERE. THERE MUST BE SOMEONE HERE IN THE UK THAT UNDERSTANDS THESE OLD STYLE SYSTEMS, I JUST HAVENT MET THEM YET SADLY, OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE !

ONE OF THE FENDER CHROME STRIPS ( FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ) HAS A SMALL THUMB DENT IN IT, ITS NOT DAMAGED THE CHROME AT ALL (LUCKLY) I HAVE SENT A PIC OF IT TO TORONADO AUTOMOTIVE WHO HAVE DONE WORK ON CARS FOR ME BEFORE AND MIKE SAYS IT CAN BE PRESSED OUT AND POLISHED TO RESTORE IT BACK TO NEW, I JUST HAVENT HAD TIME TO GET THE TRIM OFF, NOR WAS I TOTALLY COMFORTABLE WITH POSTING THIS LONG AND DELICATE TRIM PIECE AWAY IF IM HONEST. MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE HAS A METAL WORKER NEARER TO THEM OR HAS MORE TRUST IN THE POSTAL SERVICE TO SEND AND RECIEVE THE TRIM BETTER THAN ME ?!


OTHER THAN THESE 2 THINGS THE CAR IS JUST GREAT, A REAL HEAD TURNER AND A STRONG FUTURE INVESTMENT ! I AM SLIGHTLY NEGOCIABLE ON PRICE DUE TO THESE ISSUES, BUT PEOPLE DONT TAKE THE MICK ! IVE BEEN INVOLVED IN 50'S GM US CARS FOR OVER 14 YEARS NOW, IVE WATCHED THE MARKET INCREASE OVER THESE YEARS ON THE CERTAIN MAKES AND MODELS I SPECALISE IN. SO YOU WONT BE PULLING THE WHOOL OVER MY EYES, IVE HAD A FEW GREAT PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD VEHICLES OFF ME IN THAT TIME, THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE A REFERENCE ON ME, I DO MY BEST TO FIND THE BEST EXAMPLES I CAN FOR THE MONEY, ITS BEEN FUN AND SEEING A FEW PEOPLES DREAMS BECOME A REALITY HAS ALSO BEEN A BIG PART OF THE EXPERIENCE, AS WELL AS MY OWN IN LEARING / IMPORTING / DEALING WITH THE AMERICANS AND LASTLY HAVING THE PRIVILAGE TO OWN SUCH AMAZING CARS, IT WAS MY OWN DREAM YEARS AGO TO HAVE THESE CARS TOO.

THE CAR RUNS / DRIVES GREAT, SHIFTS SMOOTHLY WITH NO NOISES AND WILL KICK DOWN NICELY IF YOU PUSH THE ACCLERATOR FLAT DOWN. THERE IS NO SMOKE FROM EITHER EXHAUSTS, AND NO WONDERING ALL OVER THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING. ITS REAL PLEASURE TO DRIVE, AS WELL AS JUST TO LOOK AT.
