1930 Ford Model A Roadster

For consignment we are dropping the hanky here in our halls at Classic Auto Mall, and this custom '30 Model A with a jig welded 32 frame and incorporated torsion bar suspension.  All custom and all Henry Ford steel this car is a who's who of hot rodding nameplates for all materials put into it.  From a donor T bird to a tri power intake and triple 2-barrel Holley carbs feeding the mill, get rear to soar down the straightaway.

Exterior
Weight loss was a real key to these classic hot rods and this car has had the equivalent of a gastric bypass to achieve a bare bones hot rod.  Simplicity abounds with just the radiator cowl leading the way edges bathed in Brandywine metallic and a shiny vertical ribbed grille.  On each side a round headlight hangs off of the cowl and their design keeps it low.  The hood and side cowls for such are now long gone, but hey we don't need 'em!  We have a wonderful engine to gaze at in amazement but more on that later.  The firewall is there along with the tub, shaved door handles, a small steel framed windshield and the on to the back of the car.  This is a fender-less, running board-less nice inverted C curve making up the trunk and rear roll pan.  A single round tail light is off of either side back here just like the front headlights.  The paint is just fab, nice and deep and just a slight bit of chip off near the door and firewall panel's edges. 15-inch steel wheels with a chromed trim ring and shiny center moon cap are wrapped by 195/65R15 rubber in front and big 285/70R15's in back all from the 21st week of 2019.

Interior
Several head of cattle sacrificed themselves for this custom interior based on the '57 Thunderbird.  The door panels are padded the stitched to make upper vertical tuck and roll then a curvy delineation for s solid tan panel, leather strap hinge and chromed actuator.  Inside for the dash, the Thunderbird influence is seen right off the bat with dual crescent shaped curved visored dash top padded panels and underneath the matching curved swirl machine pattern.  On the drivers side are all vintage looking white faced instruments with shiny bezels  with a smaller circle 4 square layout and a large digital odometer sweep speedometer in the center.  In front of the passenger, another curved visor and under this side is more machined swirl pattern stainless and a chromed digital AM/FM radio.  The seats are squared off low back bomber style buckets and these are nearly perfect with some tuck and roll and smooth bolsters.  A center console starts at the rear top of the chairs and descends to the floor where it begins its race to the dash.  Here we see all covered in tan leather, some inset machined stainless cup holders, the Hurst shifter and a modern handbrake.  The console goes to the firewall and then abruptly stops, never actually meeting the dash.  A Thunderbird tan steering wheel with chromed 3/4 horn ring center is fronting the dash.  Clean maroon carpeting covers the floors and we should give a shout out to the trunk where more leather lining and some more maroon carpeting is installed and looking dapper.

Drivetrain
Open for all the world to see and there is lots to look at in this engine bay.  Mainly a 312ci V8 from a 57 ThunderBird sporting a deep red painted block.  All surrounding intake valve coverings and headers are all chromed.  There is a tri power intake and 3 2-barrel Holley carbs feeding this '57 bird mill using progressive linkage.  A 5-speed manual T5 transmission, totally rebuilt, is in back and power goes to a Ford 9 inch rear axle.  Shiny long tube headers protrude out each side and come together just after the firewall cowl into one big pipe.  Nary a drip of oil, and a maroon scoop is on top looking sleek and more modern.

Undercarriage
Up in the lift this car is also a shower underneath.  All black straight rust and dirt free steel is making an entrance, and it sits between framing that is from a 32 Ford, jig welded to match exactly.  Here you can see the engineering that went into this nifty hidden torsion bar front suspension welded right to the frame and in back is a 4 bar system with more hidden torsion bars.  In front are Wilwood disc brakes and on the back the drums, nice and grabby.

Drive-Ability
The consignor states this car is a very comfy and smooth driver and he was exactly correct.  The car started right up, and on the test track proved very nimble, had great handling, and braking was bias free.  Manual steering was really easy and I did not miss the power even in tight spaces.  All functions, although very few, work just great.

A true custom build using some 57 Thunderbird influences, leather, Henry steel, plenty of bling for the engine, and all professional work to perform the concerto of the build with not anything out of tune.   She's got a competition clutch with the four on the floor and she purrs like a kitten 'til the side pipes roar.  And if that ain't enough to make you flip your lid.  There's one more thing, I got the pink slip, daddy!  And so now can you!
