This is a pearl blue Stalin made in 1998.
The Stalin, named after the president of the company, was introduced in 1993 to lead the new generation of Music Man players, but despite the fact that it was packed with many new innovations, I have the impression that it did not make waves in Japan because it did not differentiate itself well from the standard Stingray model. Perhaps the specifications of a 4-string version of the Stingray 5 made it difficult to differentiate the two.
The Stirlin, however, has the following characteristics when reviewed in a flat manner.
The body material is decided to be only "ash" as opposed to "selected hardwood" and the ambiguous Stingray; the PU with dummy coil and lever switch, which was adopted for the 5-string, brings out all the variations that can be obtained from a single PU, including series, single, and parallel PUs (and also the (The dummy coil design, which does not change the noise level even when using a single coil, is amazing). The Stingray 4-string has a 3-band preamp, which was optional on the Stingray 4-string, but now comes standard. 22 frets, which is one fret more than the Stingray 4-string. The 22-fret version is one fret larger than the Stingray 4-string and has excellent handling. The Stingray has a wider nut than the Jazbet, which makes it harder to play...and yet it works. Lightweight and compactness was certainly a trend in the 80's, but in the 90's, vintage thinking increased, and the "sound" of large bodies was reevaluated, which was a headwind for Stirlin. It really happens, doesn't it?
As mentioned above, Stalin was not in harmony with the times, but if we take a fresh look at it from the current perspective, we can find many points to appreciate it. It was just that he didn't happen to fit the trend of the time, but the fact remains that he tried to create something good. I think that reevaluation may be a matter of whether or not we can notice these points.

Unfortunately, there are some marks where the PU fence was added. The only regret is that there are marks where the PU fences were added, and there are three of them, slightly offset from each other...this spoils the look quite a bit.
