Beautiful All Original 1971 Maico 400 Square Barrel

Here we have for sale a beautiful, all original 1971 Maico 400 square barrel. I have owned this bike for 5-6 years now. I bought the bike from the original owner who purchased it new from Cooper Motors and had it shipped to a small town in Nevada where he lived. The bike has very little use on it because he had a piston failure soon after he bought it and just put the bike away after that in his garage and never rode it again. Since I acquired the bike I installed a brand new top end kit on the bike. Honed the cylinder and changed all of the fluids in the bike. The bike has about 15 minutes on the new top end. It runs great! I rebuilt the original Amal carburetor on the bike and installed new air boots and air cleaner in the intake. The bike still has its original Metzler “Made in Germany” tires on the bike. The rims are original and have shiny chrome on them but there is some patina and checking in the chrome that has started. The front rim has a small flat spot in the left side right where the rim lock is. Not sure if that’s from the rim lock or hitting something while ridding. The exhaust is original. It has a spark arrestor welded to the end. I had the exhaust pipe professionally straightened since there was a few dent under the pipe. And then I had the exhaust pipe powder coated so it now looks nice. The paint is all original on the bike. All of the fiberglass is original on the bike too. The gas tank is very nice! It was never really used, since the original owner always had a larger capacity tank on the bike and had the original orange one on the shelf. The front fender is original and has a repair on it. The tank is perfect with the original Maico decals on it. The decals have some flaking on them. The rear fender is very nice! With no visible cracks on major issues. The air box has a repair by the chain and a little hole near the kick starter. But overall has nice original paint on it. The frame is all original with original black paint on it. The engine is in very nice shape with no cosmetic issues. There are no broken fins or chips in them. The handlebars and controls are all original on the bike and are in great shape! The handlebars are still the original ones with the removable crossbar. They are straight. The levers are original and straight. The original trap door throttle is in good working condition. The Maico still has its original Magura compression release on the bike too. The front forks have new OEM style gators on them and I put new fork oil in the forks too. The rear shocks are original and still function normally. The seat is original on the bike and in pretty good shape. It has the little rivets all around the lip of the seat. There is a split in the seam on the rear of the seat. I didn’t think it was bad enough to replace the cover. Since its so rare to find an original seat on a bike these days. The rear brake lever and foot pegs are original with original paint on them. You can see how little use is on the bike from the condition of those. I have all of the original documentation that came with the bike when the bike was sold new. I have the booklet that was send to the original owner from Cooper motors with all of the paperwork and manuals and such. I even have the original MSO, (manufacturers statement of origin). The bike has never been titled. Overall this is a nice, survivor Maico 400 that is ready to go into somebody collection. I have enjoyed staring at it for all these years and am ready to pass it on to the next owner. It isn’t perfect but you seldom find original and unrestored vintage 70’s motocross bikes. They are only original once which makes this bike so cool. Please ask any and all questions that you may have. My cell phone number is 775-830-6760. No PayPal for payment.
