The
Malayan Emergency was declared on 18 June 1948, after a communist
threat was detected. Australia's operations in the Emergency began in
1950 when RAAF aircraft were sent to Singapore. The Australian Army 2nd
Battalion, ( Royal Australian Regiment 2RAR), was sent to Penang in
later part of 1955. They were engaged in "mopping up" operations. In
1957, 3RAR replaced 2RAR. In turn, during October 1959 3RAR were
replaced by 1RAR. Includes detailed alphabetical roll of all Australian
Army personnel who served and Honour Roll of both Army and RAAF.
A total of 36 Australian servicemen died during the Emergency.
