All my bearded irises come with planting and care advice between late July and early September unless otherwise requested - please disregards ebay's automatic despatch date

Border bearded iris Jungle Shadows

A sultry toned Border Bearded Iris which reaches approx 16". The uniquely exotic and other-worldish colours created a great stir when it was introduced in 1960, and in 1962 it received the Knowlton Award. The dusky grey base colour is overblended and flushed with lavender, brown, olive and purple. A deep brown beard leads you to the mysterious depths of the flower.

From Melrose Gardens catalogue for 1967: "Knowlton Award 1962. Strangest of iris colors play subtly in this unique little iris. Dusky grey with over-blending of lavender purple and brown lightening toward the edge. Dark brown purple beard." From Fleur de Lis Gardens catalogue for 1965: "An odd blend of grey, with a flush of bluish purple and bamboo yellow which gives the flower a grey-olive color. Made further intriguing by a dark beard and violet-tinged hafts."

Like all specialist bearded iris growers, I only despatch at the start of the transplanting season.  Irises don't do well in pots as  they hate root constriction, so mine are field grown where they have the free root run they need to develop into sturdy plants.

Standard dwarf varieties mostly flower in late April/early May, intermediates in mid May, and the tall bearded start at the end of May.   Plant in the same bed ranked by size for a very long display

Did you know, in Greek mythology Iris was the messenger from the gods who came to earth through a rainbow.
