This Exquisite two piece Wedding Ensemble was found at an estate sale in Illinois in the late 1990s. Thank you Gil for saving me that chaotic day and rescuing all the vintage clothing you saved as well as me.  I will always thank Gil for every piece I list. The owner of the estate knew nothing of his ancestors. Lovely and exquisite two piece corded silk bodice and skirt. No label or maker, no Petersham. 1889 to 1893 bustle Wedding Ensemble. Bodice is heavily boned with 16 stays. Top portions of sleeves are large puffed with faux ruffles trimmed with FAUX pearls. Lower sleeves are plain and straight. Large lace panels adorn front and back of bodice and extend into Revers over the top of the sleeves. There are very faint pale perspiration stains under the Armcyce's, no rips or holes. Collar is gathered and stands up. Back neckline of collar is shorter. FAUX pearls trim the collar and upper bodice. Lace constructed of cotton with scalloped edges. Bodice has more detailing and the purpose of this was due to bring beauty to the Brides face when worn during her Wedding. Bottom of bodice comes to a point and is piped along the edge. Bodice and skirt both hand and machine stitched. Sleeves measure 22", collar measures 2" tall, total length 16-1/2". Skirt is simple with a heavily gathered "Bustle" back. Two heavy hooks and eye closure. Skirt lined in pale brown lightweight polished cotton. . Front and back of skirt are of a simple Bustle design. At one time someone made the waistline larger. Needs two new large eye's added  strong original hooks still attached. Older cotton was added to widen the waistline. Original waistline measures 22", wider waistline measures 27-1/2". The 1/2" was so that the end tabs could be closed, true waist would have been 27". Lower inside of skirt has a "stiffened" ruffle to add strength and structure. This type of pleated stiffening was hand cranked on a steel ruffle maker. This self pleated stiffening without hand pleating as in older times. Back has many gathers for the bustle cage to be worn beneath. Skirt has no rips or tears. A small pale orange stain at center and a larger one at top front of skirt. I have not soaked the skirt  I will leave that to the new care taker. Beautiful garment, a great Springtime or Wedding display, or, wear for a period wedding. Lace on bodice has slight ding from age. Could be soaked, but, do not use bleaches, this will wear off the FAUX pearl sheen. Two piece in excellent condition with the mention of the two stains. Skirt front length 40-1/2", back length 49". All sales final. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. Thank you.
