Here is one of Stangl's most loved and versatile patterns!  Stangl introduced "Orchard Song" in 1962. The design is attributed to artist, Irene Sarnecki, and the color scheme was based on House and Garden magazine's fashion hues of 1962.  The brown, tan and olive colors were popular in the 60's and 70's, and also work well with today's design aesthetic.

This kidney-shaped serving platter is quintessential mid-century modern.  In addition to being stylish, it's also extremely practical.  Use on your tabletop, as a decorative bowl, or display on its own!

Measurements: 13½ x 10½ inches

Condition: Excellent vintage condition!  Very minimal signs of use with no cracks, scratches or chips.  Clearly marked on the bottom.

About Stangl Pottery: In addition to being highly collectible (not to mention giftable), Stangl Pottery is known far and wide for innovative artware, bright, colorful bird figurines and hand-painted dinnerware.  The company began in 1814 as Hill Pottery in Flemington, NJ - which produced drain pipes, storage crocks and jars from the local red earthenware clay.  It later became Fulper Pottery of New Jersey. Fulper Pottery primarily produced stoneware, and later, introduced their now famous Vasekraft art pottery in 1909.

In 1910, Johann Martin Stangl was hired to develop new pottery shapes and glazes.  Stangl later became president, and changed the company name to Stangl Pottery in 1929 (dinnerware made by the company was marked Stangl beginning in 1930).  Stangl was responsible for the introduction of America’s first open stock solid-color dinnerware.  Stangl's beautiful hand-painted dinnerware and artware was sold through over 3,000 department, gift and jewelry stores across America.  Their showroom even became a popular tourist destination.

By November 1978, Stangl Pottery ceased manufacturing and closed forever, signaling the end of a truly unique American folk-art product.  Nevertheless, their beautiful pieces are still highly sought out, and highly prized by collectors.
