These spoons are 5 5/8 long and weigh in total 2.25 troy ounces. The spoons have some light scratches, the bowls have some minor nicks/dings, One has a dent on the end of the handle, all the others are in good condition for their age. The spoons have a mono of AW and are marked JB on the back.

Jacob Bear worked in Lexington Virginia and perhaps Rockingham, 1823- pre civil war.
This JB marked is attributed to him in Hollans Virginia Silversmiths. These are very rare spoons, the marks are clearer than those shown in Hollan. I could find no others on the market. Catherine Hollan  also shows the mark in her "Virginia and West Virginia Silversmiths and related Artisans to 1900, now on the market. All of Catherine's books are worth buying, but this book is a steal at $34 shipped. When you get it, you will want to get the earlier one too., if you don't have it.

We have six dessert spoons from the same set listed.
