DESCRIPTION:
This is a superb fusee mantel clock by Bry the renowned FW Elliott. This type of click is most commonly referred to as an Officer's Mess clock although these clocks almost certainly saw wider use throughout RAF stations. The case is made from solid oak which has some lovely grain and is of a nice simple design. 
  

To access the dial a button to the left side is pressed to release the bezel. The silvered dial is set out with Roman numerals and an RAF emblems is also engraved to the dial. The bezel is cast brass and the glass over the dial is convex. The rear door is complete with its lock and key. The movement is an excellent quality chain driven fusee movement. The movement us engraved with the makers name ‘MADE BY F.W. ELLIOTT LTD ENGLAND’. The pendulum is held in place by a travel nut when the clock is being moved. 

Although the company was  formed by Frank Westcombe Elliott in 1923 manufacturing domestic clocks, the original Elliott company was formed by J.J. Elliott in 1886. In 1909 the company merged with Grimshaw & Baxter. Following the death of J.J. Elliott, his son, F.W. Elliott left Grimshaw & Baxter in 1921 and joined Gillett & Johnston, two years later he formed his own company FW Elliott Ltd, The factory was bombed twice during the war. After the war they supplied clocks to the Government and the GPO.  

The clock comes complete with it's winding key,  pendulum and door key.

The approximate dimensions are:

- 9 inches / 23 cm wide

- 5 1/2 inches / 14 cm deep

- 13 3/4 inches / 35 cm high

AGE:
The clock is circa 1930.

CONDITION:
The case and 
dial are in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs just odd age and use related marks as would be expected. The movement is stunning quality being chain fusee. The clock is happily ticking and keeping good time. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.

This RAF clock is by an excellent maker and would grace any home, so happy bidding.
