1930's pickup truck style with modern reliability

Here is a rebodied 1997 LTI TX1 that has been fitted with a custom built cab and pickup bed.
The rebody was carried out in 2021 and is correctly registered with DVLA.

Licensed to carry 4 people; two in the cab and two in the pickup bed seats. Kids love riding in the back, safely secured by harness style seatbelts. Our black Labrador loves the wind in her ears in the back too !

The cab has a chopped stance. I would recommend it for people 6ft high or less.

The truck has been designed to be simple to repair with easy access to the engine, suspension and brakes. The wiring has only 2 relays (primary and secondary glow plugs) so there is very little to go wrong. I've run this truck for three years with ZERO breakdowns.

It's a perfect workshop truck as it is licensed to carry 800kg, has a tow hook, plus front & rear cradles designed to carry 20foot lengths of metal tubing. Two metal storage boxes are fitted to carry tools, straps, etc.

As it is such an eye-catching truck, I had it sign written on the doors. This signwriting has been removed although the lettering on the pickup bed fence remains. I can remove this lettering if you require.

-Super reliable 2664cc Nissan TD27 engine - Known to easily do 1 million miles
-Garrat turbo. The adjustable boost is currently running at 12psi but our Aussie friends often run the TD27 engine at 40psi
-Auto gearbox with overdrive

-Can be run on vegetable oil which only costs £1.10 per litre !
-Bridgestone Dueler 7.50x16 tyres with 4-5mm tread
-Spares are cheap to buy
-It comes with two sets of doors; full height with glass and half height for summer. Or you can drive without the doors.
-Electric winch fitted in the pickup bed. Ideal for loading quad bikes, wheelchairs, etc
-MOT till January 2025

Things to improve:
-You may wish to add dashboard symbol stickers
-Sound proof matting on the interior panels.
-The fuel & temp gauge have recently stopped working. They share a common power feed so its likely a simple electrical issue.

Answers to some questions I've had;
  • Road tax is £345/year
  • Windscreen is laminated windscreen glass
  • Side windows are toughened auto glass
  • No rear window
  • I pay £246/yr insurance on it with Footman James. Its best to use a specialist insurance company. I have also used Sterling and Adrian Flux.
  • The door handles only latch, they do not lock
  • It has a heater
  • Current mileage is 247k
  • It has the original Nissan 2.7 turbo diesel engine and gearbox
  • The Nissan engine was fitted to the TX1 taxis from 1997-2002
  • After 2002 LTI taxis were fitted with the less reliable 2.4 Ford Duratorq TD14
  • I have driven 6hrs on a motorway in it in one day but it is not a long distance cruiser
