Fresh from an estate comes this Icom IC-706MkIIG all mode HF/VHF/UHF transceiver. One of my favorite radios, I own two of these that I frequently operate for mobile and portable operations.

This radio is in very nice condition, showing few signs of use. It comes in the original box and includes the original mic, power cord and manual as shown in the photos.

When I first fired this up on the test bench I didn't hear anything. I wiggled a few cables, thinking I had a bad antenna connection and soon had things working. After this scenario repeated a few times I came to realize the problem was with the radio and not the wiring. It appears that, like tube radios of olden days, this radio has to "warm up" before it works. It will not receive or transmit for about 2 or 3 minutes when first turned on, then operates normally. Friends have suggested bad caps in the power supply section. For someone able to work on small radios like this it may be a simple fix.

Before realizing what the problem was I made quite a few short contacts with it--POTA, special event stations, quick DX, etc. I've probably now made 50 to 100 such contacts with it as well as using the radio to test other items like wattmeters and such. So it mostly works, but clearly has issues.

In transmit it puts out around 70 to 80 watts, so a little lower than original specs but plenty to make contacts.

So offered as-is, as a tech special whose symptoms I hope I've sufficiently described.
