1989 Dodge D100 Pickup

For consignment ,a 1989 version of the Dodge D100 Pickup truck.  This is a half ton 2 wheel drive version, and it has a long bed that is sporting spray on protection liner.  Probably the biggest change aside from a respray is the addition of a 5.9 Liter Magnum V8 which the consignor states has a mere 3,000 miles on it.  A tip of the white hat and we're off to the farm.

Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.

Exterior
With nearly all of its factory looks this truck has a respray from 2017 of the factory matching Dark Quartz Gray.  The paint is all good and certainly rust free.  A few scratches and slight dings are seen but overall the truck presents as excellent for this exterior.  This goes for the chrome, for bumpers, errors, grille surround and side trimmings, and very light gray paint which resides on the rockers where any rust dares to live.  Gaps are well minded, and all steel is very straight.  The bed has been sprayed with a black liner and is nearly perfect as well.  The front is all factory with a single rectangular headlight and badging including the hood ram ornament, are all looking good.  15-inch American Racing Wheels are all wrapped up with 255/70R15 rubber on all 4 corners, and these tires are simply like new.  I'm ready to butt heads with other trucks we have in house.

Interior
Opening the doors to enter the cab and I'm greeted with oxblood plastic that is non cracked and marred and is doing a great job of forming the door panels.  Inside I slip into more oxblood for the bench only this time it's in a tweed for the inserts, and a vinyl for the bolsters.  Maroon carpeting is on the floor below this wonderfully preserved bench.  The dash is factory and has a red padded top with some wood appliqué in the center for the gauges and black smaller panels within the appliqué.  The dash also housers many button climate controls, a warning light panel, and  a factory AM/FM/Cassette player.  A few non factory add-ons include a small hanging from the dash oil pressure gauge, and a larger white Autometer SportComp tachometer on the steering column.  On the end of this column is a factory steering wheel that is slightly dirty.  A shiny oxblood vinyl headliner is above and save for the steering wheel the interior is really very clean.

Drivetrain
Under the hood in the unrestored engine bay now sits a 5.9 Liter Magnum V8 of which the consigner states has about 3,000 miles onl it.  To feed it there is a Holley Sniper EFI system attached and on the back is a rebuilt 46R 4-speed automatic transmission.  The rear axle is an 8-1/4 inch version.  The engine is like new and very clean for this consignor stated 423 horsepower mill.

Undercarriage
As I peruse the underside of this example, I see light spotty surface rust on the strong steel construction, worth an overall light patina and some road dirt.  Suspension is independent coil springs for the front and leaf springs for the rear.  Power front disc braking is in and for the back power drums.  Headers and stainless steel mufflers are installed in dual format but are without catalytic converters

Drive-Ability
The truck fired right up and off to the track where I and the truck had a great experience.  It was rattle free, accelerated nicely and handled well for a truck.  It is a smooth shifter and a good quiet cruiser.  I felt like a king in 2WD style.  I will say the AC did not blow cold, and I detected multiple exhaust leaks.

A nice example from the late 80's, no jacking, no lifting, no stripes, no nonsense, just pure unadulterated D100 truck.  A little more strength under the hood now and the interior is very easy on the eyes and goes great with the exterior gray.  Built Ram tough as they say.
