A superb, ex-stores example of a single
World War Two
British Home Guardsman's
Emergency Issue Ammo Pouch
Dated 1941
With the outbreak of WW-II in September 1939
'37 pattern webbing as used by
Britain's front-line troops was in short supply
so to fill the gap for the newly created Home Guard,
leather pouches, designated M.39, were introduced to
carry clips of .303 for their WW-I issued SMLE rifle.
In a stunning ex-stores condition,
never having been issued, nor the flaps closed over,
the back carries a War Dept Arrow and number 117
stamped into the leather whilst a black makers initials
and a later date of
D.P & S. 1941
is over-stamped in black ink.
Part of a small batch of unissued, ex-stores, personal kit
recently uncovered,
that would have been issued to a member of the
County of Hampshire's Home Guard
between 194o and 1944.
Thanks for looking..!
