New CD Respighi: Roman Trilogy (recorded in 1957/1961) (Limited Edition) Japan

Description

Description
The Roman Trilogy was the most highly acclaimed work of the LP era, and is a masterpiece of outstanding performance and recording.
■The "Roman Trilogy," recorded by Ormandy from 1957 to 1961, in the early days of LPs, is one of the most colorful orchestral works of the 20th century and has been highly acclaimed as one of the best recordings of the stereo LP era. The clear and expansive Columbia-only "360 sound" vividly depicts the skill of Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra in reproducing with perfect precision the sound scroll that Respighi wove with a large orchestra. In particular, the two pieces "Pines" and "Fountain" are monumental recordings that were released as the first stereo LP released by Columbia in 1958, with the product number MS6001. "Festival" was recorded in two sessions during the 1960/61 season, and was first released as a coupling with Sibelius' Symphony No. 7, but was later released as a long-duration LP combined with "Pines" and "Fountain," which attracted a great deal of attention. Although both recordings were from the early days of stereo, the wide dynamic range, the ability to reproduce spaciousness including the brass band, and the superb positioning of each part are all testament to Columbia's recording technology, which was at a high level from the beginning. The excellent sound is still astonishing even in the 21st century.

Ormandy's recording of the Roman Trilogy from 1957 to 1961, the early days of LPs, has been highly acclaimed as one of the best recordings of the stereo LP era, featuring three of the most colorful orchestral pieces of the 20th century. The greatest point is that the clear and expansive Columbia-specific "360 sound" vividly depicts the skill of Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra in perfectly reproducing the sound scroll that Respighi wove with a large orchestra. In particular, the two pieces "Pines" and "Fountain" are monumental recordings that were released as Columbia's first stereo LP in 1958, with the product number MS6001. "Festival" was recorded in two sessions during the 1960/61 season, and was first released as a coupling with Sibelius' Symphony No. 7, but was later released as a long-length LP combined with "Pines" and "Fountain," which caused a great stir. Although both recordings were made in the early days of stereo recording, the wide dynamic range, the ability to reproduce spaciousness including the brass band, and the superb sense of positioning of each part are testament to Columbia's recording technology, which has been at a high level since the beginning. Even in the 21st century, the excellent sound is astonishing. (C)RS
