I will describe each of the 5 items as best I can.
1) Box in dark red carboard measuring 29 cm x 11.5.
and 5 cm deep. Decorative lid reads J & P Coats Mercerised Crochet and there is also the original tissue paper with a print of the factory, although this has been torn into two.. Coats is a well known Scottish manufacturer with its origins origination in Paisley in 1825, becoming J&P Coats Ltd in 1896 and which remains the worlds leading industrial thread manufacturer.
This box does not have all its original contents, There are 4 I think untouched white 20 gramme balls of the mercerised crochet and then 3 x 25 g. balls of ''Dolls Designs '' 3 ply pure new wool also in white.
2) Box measuring 21.4 x 16 cm, 5 cm deep, gold coloured paper top, worn but reasonable condition. I had thought this was a box for cottons but on closer inspection, inside lid is written 'T B Carlin Ltd Cigar manufacturer to the late king George VI.' So this is a actually 1950s cigar box which someone has repurposed for their sewing threads.
Inside are 4 compartments One contains a roll of what calls itself '9 Cord No 24 Velocity'. Another contains 12 partly used
silks made up of 6 rolls of Nicholson and Hall (1930) Ltd silk in various shades; 1 roll made by 'Alderman': 2 x Gutterman Germany; 3 where I cannot see the maker's name. The third compartment contains the remnants of 3 reels of some sort of elastic with instructions inside each explaining that it is Ripple-Lastic yarn for shirring at home. The last contains the remnants of 4 rolls of some more elastic thread one of which also has its (mysterious to this modern eye) instructions inside.
3) Box labelled Fil d'or no 323 Mercerised cotton 240 yards 2 ends 2 ply Made in England. This appears to be a silk for mending ladders in solk stockings and inside are 7 nice untouched rolls of Fil D'Or hose mending silk in various shades.
4) Wrapped unopened packet of Italian thread marked 100 yards Lucido. I do not want to open the original packaging myself so I ma not sure how many rolls there are inside.
5)
Wrapped unopened packet of Collingbourne Mills of Elgin mercerised cotton, 1 end 2 ply 300yards. It is described as a 'Big Value' Darning and Mending Kit ' and contains 10 small rolls again in slightly different shades. It looks as though these might also be for mending silk stockings.
In addition a misc bundle of 3 1940s (?) bias bindings, some Pikaby iron on name tapes, an unused but torn along some of the perforations card of La Rigoletta poppers/press studs and a small box containing 3 bits of very old tailor's chalk in what I assume to be its original box.
So an interesting selection for the sewing enthusiast of vintage cottons and silks etc some in its original branded advertising packing .
