Dating to late 1930's, this highly stylized glass shade sconce exudes streamline ,modernist styling. Streamlining emerged in the early 1930's as a natural extension of the modernist movement. It emphasized curving forms and long horizontal lines, creating the illusion of speed and motion. Streamlined products were imparted with the impression of sleekness and modernity. This new design temperament was incorporated into everything from railroad locomotives to pencil sharpeners and remained popular well into the 1940's. Period streamlined items are now highly desirable among "Art Deco" enthusiasts as fewer of these artifacts become available with each passing year.
