STAMP ~ MARCONI

 

Unused, 9p UK stamp issued in 1972 in a series entitled ‘Broadcasting Anniversaries’, and marks the 75th anniversary of Marconi and Kemp’s radio experiments.  The stamp shows an oscillator and spark transmitter, as used by Guglielmo Marconi and his assistant George Kemp in the transmission of a radio signal across open sea for the first time, in 1897.

The stamp has a phosphor band to each side, is gummed to reverse and is catalogued as SG 912.
