Item Description

Here is a great Antique Map of Canada or New France and the surrounding areas for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This map will not last long. Don’t wait too long and then regret not getting this map for your needs.

The map is entitled, "Carte Du Canada ou de la Nouvelle Frances". This map was originally done in 1703 by the cartographer Guillaume De Lisle. A very similar copy was issued in 1708 by a group named Covens and Mortier. The hand coloring of the map is very well done. Still shows good coloring for its' age.

The map covers the areas which are now Canada, the Artic, Greenland, and the northern half of what would become the United States. A beautiful and uncommon early 18th century map of Canada.

This fine antique map is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine gallery or auction house. We can do that by being a dealer in artwork for over 40 years, better controlling our acquisition costs, keeping commission costs low (if applicable). Finally, we don't have the overhead that fine galleries or auction houses have.

The map has not been examined out of the frame. The map does not appear to have ever been folded, so most likely did not come out of a book. No tears or repairs that we can ascertain. The map is definitely printed on older paper with a non-smooth surface.

No certificate of authenticity comes with this piece. We cannot say with certainly that this is an original piece, or just an older reprinting. You be the judge as to whether this piece is original or not before acquiring. You or your agent are certainly welcome to stop by to see the map in person as well.

The map comes in an older wood frame with an exposed grain finish. There no longer is any glass over the map contrary to what noted in the pictures. So, a little loose in the frame. Older backing paper on the frame and the older hanging wire is in place as well. A previous ownership tag on the back that says, "The Property of William C. O'Neill".

This Antique Map of Canada in frame is 16-7/16" tall, by 18.75" across, by .75" wide. The map showing within the frame is 14-3/8" tall by 16-5/8" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions.

Guillaume Delisle, also spelled Guillaume de l'Isle, (French: [ɡijom dəlil]; 28 February 1675, Paris – 25 January 1726, Paris) was a French cartographer known for his popular and accurate maps of Europe and the newly explored Americas.

Immediate payment is required for items where the full listing price is paid.
When a best offer price is accepted, the sooner payment is made, the sooner your item will be shipped.
Once full payment is received, your item will be shipped on the same or next business day (depending on the time of day the purchase is made). For example, an item paid for on Tuesday will be shipped no later than end of day Wednesday. An item paid for on Friday will be shipped no later than end of day Monday.
U.S. Federal holidays will impact shipping dates.

Shipping Policy

Shipping is available to:

48 contiguous U.S. states and Canada.
Select countries (disclosed in individual item description).
PayPal confirmed addresses only.

No APO/FPO delivery.

Items will be shipped via USPS or UPS Ground, based on the buyer's preference.

Shipped on the same or next business day following receipt of full payment.
UPS/USPS tracking number will be provided.

Shipping includes the cost of insurance, where applicable.
Special shipping requests can be communicated and agreed upon at the time of sale.
A separate handling charge may apply to certain items that require additional packaging in order to ensure safe shipping. Please refer to the individual listings to see if a handling charge applies.

If an item is shipped to a country outside of the United States, the buyer is responsible for any brokerage, tariffs, taxes, customs, or other charges imposed by that country. The seller reserves the right to choose the international shipping carrier based on shipping method selected at the time of payment. The seller will not understate the value of any item on customs forms.

If you purchase or win more than one auction in which the items can safely be shipped together, we will send you a combined invoice.

We take great pride in is our wrapping to ensure that your order is safely shipped to you. You might find our shipping costs higher than other sellers, but it is due to the extra time, packing care, and materials we utilize. Of over 900 packages shipped last year, we had only two items with issues, a 99.8% damage free delivery rate. Keep in mind, we are not shipping soft goods, like shirts or pants. We are shipping vintage/antique items that are fragile and require special care.

We also obtain insurance on any item that was bought for $50 or more, and require signature on delivery for items that are valued at over $200. Plus we have to pay the 11.75% of the final value and shipping fees that eBay and PayPal charges.

Forfeiture - Items not picked up or arrangements not made by Buyer to have the item shipped to them within 60 days after payment, or during the layaway payment process, will be forfeited by Buyer to Seller. Seller then has the right to resell the item again, with no refund of purchase price or sales tax to previous Buyer.

Returns Policy

Returns are accepted by seller within 30 days of receipt of item where an item is not as described. The Buyer will be assessed a 15% restocking fee of the Item and Shipping Cost should they decide to return this item for whatever the reason.
Please note that a restocking fee is charged to to cover costs related to the loss of listing time and other potential sales, plus the amount of care and time that goes into preparing our unique and fragile items for shipping.
In accordance with eBay's Buyer Protection Program, the purchase price plus original shipping cost will be refunded to the buyer once the item has been received by the seller, minus the 15% restocking fee noted.
Buyer would pay for the return shipping cost and any applicable insurance cost (item is the buyer's financial responsibility until the item is safely returned to the seller by shipper).
