UP FOR SALE:  Vintage MCM Artesania Rinconada ceramic figurine. Beautifully made and detailed! 

ARTESANIA RINCONADA is a unique line of ceramic figures produced in Uruguay - South America

The collection is internationally known and is one of the finest examples of contemporary ceramic design. The figurines are hand carved and detailed in fine grain earthenware ceramic material and then fired.  After this first firing the decoration continues with hand application of color and enamel glazed used to accent and highlight individual design characteristics.  Each enamel glaze is fired individually in order to preserve its distinctive color.

The brothers were from Spain and moved to Uruguay in as children in 1936 when the Spanish civil war erupted.  Influenced by 20th century artists Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso, The Classic Collection was created by two brothers Jesus and Javier Carbajales in 1972 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The name for Artesania Rinconada is a Spanish phrase meaning - Art of the corner- or Corner Art, and was chosen by the brothers due to the fact that they worked out of a small corner of their living room for many years. Even though they long ago moved their "Corner Studio", their art was named and still to this day is referred to as Artesania Rinconada ---  thus the initials AR are carved into each piece still today.

In 1996 Jorge De Rosa became the new Factory Director and has collabed with Jesus and Javier in implementing creative new techniques to the Rinconada design, which has developed a series of gold and platinum accented animal figurines to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original Classic Collection--which are referred to as The Silver Anniversary Collection.

There are other collections as well--the De Rosa Box Collection the Rincababy Collection and the recently retired Rosa Bell Collection.  So, keep your eyes open for these other wonderful items from The Carbajales and their collaboration with many other amazing artists.
