Childs Rainbow Spatterware Waste Bowl Tea Set

Staffordshire England 1830

This is rare miniature spatterware or sponge ware hand decorated tea set waste bowl or dregs pot circa 1830-1840. The decoration is applied in two color red and pink rainbow pattern, hand sponge work. Made for childs play and display in a child’s dollhouse. The diminutive bowl stands 2-3/4 inches tall and measures 4-1/4 inches across the top rim.

The pot is unmarked and the maker is unknown. It is of English origin, probably the Staffordshire region.

It is in overall good condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Discoloration around the base and interior. Rim and foot wear. Not fine pottery and not intended to be -- made for childs play and probably considered disposable. Kiln kiss on side and other minor firing imperfections original to the making and glaze crazing consistent with age.  The sponged and spatter decoration is bright,  clear and crisp with some skips and irregularities adding to the authenticity and charm. A great naïve motif, a good earthy example. Sold as is, as shown and as described.
