19th Century English ABC Nursery Plate Little Jack Horner

We have two great recent nursery plate acquisitions - "Little Jack Horner" and "Cinderella." This auction is for "Little Jack Horner."

Wonderful child’s plate produced in England - circa 1880. This highly decorative plate was manufactured by Brownhills Pottery in Tunstall, England. It is a fantastic transferware plate featuring the most stunning pattern with an Aesthetic period flavor that was all the fashion at this time. The central illustration depicts a scene from the popular children’s nursery rhyme ‘Little Jack Horner.’

The plate also features an alphabet pattern; such patterns were used as teaching aids for children during the 19th century. To the base we find the Rd Number 75,500 (registered design number for the year 1887/88).

Perfect for anyone with a passion for childhood antiques.

Measuring: Diameter 7.25 inch (18.5 cm).

Condition: Natural crazing to glaze.
There are surface grazes around the rim of the plate as one would expect with an original 142 year old plate.

Please see our other auction for the "Cinderella" plate. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking.
