Antique/Vintage Whitehead and Hoag Masonic FreeMason Cast Bronze Medal/Medallion Commemorating the 150th Anniversary St. Johns Lodge No. 1

This rare or hard to find cast bronze medal, commemorative plaque or medallion/paperweight was made by the Whitehead and Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey.

The casting commemorates the 150th anniversary of St. Johns Lodge No. 1

(1761-1911)

Marked with impressed Whitehead and Hoag on the side; as shown.

The front, or obverse side of the medal depicts the Arts & Crafts or Mission Style interior of the lodge room, and the Newark Academy in 1850.

Upper left corner shows is an image of  The Rising Sun Tavern, the location of the first meeting in 1761.

Backside, or reverse reveals the names of Howard Taft; the sitting President at that tiem, and Woodrow Wilson, then Governor of New Jersey and later President of the United States.

Corners bear portraits of George Washington and Lafayette.

Also noted are the names of the initial Lodge officers in 1761 and 1911.

Bottom corners show the Seal of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey and the Seal of St John's Lodge No. 1.

 



Condition:

Medallion is in very nice condition, with an aged patina; as shown.

2 1/2" tall X 4" wide.
