Description

Since its birth in 1938, the “SJ-200” has been known as the “King of Flat Top” due to its immense popularity and luxury, especially among country musicians. In the 1950s, the name was changed to “J-200” and it has remained Gibson's flagship model to this day, although there have been some specification changes. This instrument is a 1991 USED model, which is one of the earliest made at the Montana factory. Spruce top, maple sides and back, maple 3-piece neck, rosewood fingerboard and mustache bridge, crown fingerboard inlay, double rhinestone gold pegs, scalloped X bracing, natural color. The bridge pins have been changed to a dotted wood type. The J-200 was first made for country singer Ray Whitley in 1937. The original inlay was applied to make it look gorgeous on stage, and the large body was intended to provide volume and bass. Production of the J-200 began in 1938. It has remained Gibson's flagship model to this day. In terms of looks, the crown inlays on the head and fingerboard, the shape of the bridge, and the pickguard are all decorative. This model has been meticulously crafted to be worthy of a flagship. Above all, it has a large jumbo size body boasting 17 inches. The massive and thick low component, voluptuous and loud sound, is a feeling that cannot be experienced in other models. It has a clear but sweet sound, with a crisp but not too sharp treble. When the body is fully driven, the sound has an unrivaled impact in terms of power and sound pressure. The round-shaped neck has a shallow angle that is relatively easy to get used to, making it a flagship model with a unique look and sound. There are some paint pulls along the head veneer and the binding seam between the fingerboard and neck, but they are superficial and can be used without any problems. The weather checks on the entire body add to its king-like appearance. The neck and other parts of the neck are in good playing condition. The fine grain of the maple, which resembles the beauty of shimmering water surface, gives the impression of a king not only from the sound but also from the appearance. The number of J-200s on the market has been on the decline in recent years, so if you are looking for one, please consider purchasing it as soon as possible. Comes with original hard case.
