These cabochons 4 each) are made of a most unusual and rare stone, one that never existedbefore 1986, and probably will never again. It was only by pure accident thatthere is even such a stone.  In TOTAL, all 4 cabochons Weigh 16.9 grams. Over 3.25 Carats total.

Near the town of Tengiz, Kazakhastan an oil rig caughtfire December 4th, 1985, causing numerous fatalities.

Along withthis; A rare form of Obsidian known as Blue Obsidian or Tengizite, in honor ofthose killed during the 14 month-long inferno.

The ground reformed around the intense 3,000 degreeheat and formed this material that even today it can’t be found anywhere. Noteven at the site of the fire.

Truly RARE, its existence is a miracle in itself.

Per Gengazer.com:  (Edited for spelling)

Tengizite is the name given to this non-natural Obsidian glass. It formed as a result an explosion at an oil field in Tengiz, Kazakhstan which began in 1985 and took around 12 months to extinguish, with temperatures reaching up to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. A 300 meter column of smoke was reported to be visible from 85 miles away.

The sedimentary soil, rocks (and even industrial equipment such as bulldozers) melted under the heat of the blaze, resulting in a thin layer of this vitreous color-banded substance.

PER Wikipedia:
Tengizite is a vitreous substance with bands of color that formed after an explosion at an oil field in Kazakhstan in 1985. The darker streaks that run through the stone are the remnants of the rocks that formed the glass.

Instead of“double-boxing” (that costs you more in just weight) I generally use oversize      boxes to reduce possible damage, especially for Vintage Model Kits. I had an original Lindberg Flying Saucer, the last one for my collection of the 5 1950’s kits; get “Cornered” on its topby a heav box corner?! I was devastated! Since then I’m keenly aware of such“acci-dents”
