The GIBSON “L-00” model was manufactured from 1932 to 1946. It was so popular among blues guitarists that it was nicknamed the “Blues King. The original prewar vintage “L-00” is no longer available and is at a premium price in the market.
This model is a faithful restoration of the 1932 L-00, handcrafted to exacting measurements and researched down to the smallest detail.
The body top is made of artificially heat-treated “thermally aged” red spruce, the side backs are made of mahogany, and both the body and neck are coated with a very thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer. The body and neck are painted in ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer, and the bracing is hand-scalloped.
V-shaped mahogany neck, a characteristic of 1930s Gibson acoustics, with a 43.8 mm nut width (actual measurement), and a thicker neck grip.
GOLDEN AGE open back tuners, ebony nut, saddle is Bourne long slot type.
The strings are well tuned, and the current string height is 2.6mm on the 6th string and 1.8mm on the 1st string at the 12th fret.
Although it is almost 10 years old from new, it is in near mint condition with little signs of use considering its age. There are some superficial scratches on the back of the body from buttons on clothing, etc., which can be seen when holding it up to the light. These are minor and should not be of much concern. The end pins have been replaced.
The deep resonance of the bass strings and the glossy tone of the treble strings are very pleasing to the ear and give a sense of the high quality of this instrument.
The nuance is different from the garrulous tone of the original prewar vintage, but it is no exaggeration to say that this is the ultimate reesh, which was made by hand by the craftsmen of the Custom Shop with much more effort than the regular model.
It came with a reissue hard case of the “Red Line Hard Case” from the prewar period, but it has been replaced with a Gibson-specific hard case from recent years.
This model is regrettably no longer in production, so there are few chances to find it on the used market. Recommended for those who are looking for one.
