Description

The Southern Jumbo was a higher-end version of Gibson's popular J-45 model that was first produced in 1943, and in 1962, following the success of the Hummingbird model released in 1960, it was given a square-shoulder design similar to that of the Hummingbird. The round-shoulder Southern Jumbo was a favorite of Woody Guthrie and Masayoshi Yamasaki, and it is a very popular model that looks and sounds just like a Gibson. This new arrival is one of the limited editions produced by the Custom Shop in 2015!

Spruce top, mahogany SIDE & BACK, mahogany NECK, rosewood fingerboard & bridge, 44.1mm nut, 24.75“ scale, 16” round shoulder. Crown head inlays, double parallelogram position marks, and multi-binding give this model the glamorous Gibson look of a higher-end J-45. The unit in this shipment appears to have been produced as a limited edition model for 2015, but to be honest, it is not much different from the regular SJ (laughs). The only difference is that the paper label inside the body is an orange oval label instead of a white one. And the specs of this Southern Jumbo are also different depending on the year of reissue (laugh). Most Southern Jumbo reissues have a slightly narrower bridge, and the bridge pin position is a little closer to the front than on other J-45s and Hummingbirds. The bridge pin of this new shipment is also positioned closer to the saddle, which gives the guitar a powerful sound with a sense of tension!

The sound is powerful and loud, with a strong and aggressive tone! The sound is not as loose as the J-45, but a little tighter and harder, with a punchy sound. If you play it with a flat pick, you can get the round shoulder's powerful, powerful, and highly distanced Gibson sound, and if you fingerpick it, you can get a nice, crisp, grainy sound with moderate sustain, so it is suitable for any playing style or genre. It is a sound that can be used for any style of playing and any genre of music! The L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickups are installed by default, so this guitar can be used for live performances and recordings!

The condition of the instrument is very beautiful with few scratches! It seems that another strap pin was attached under the endpin jack at the end of the body, and there is a screw hole for the strap pin. It is thought that a regular strap was used for the endpin jack, and that a regular endpin was used to prevent the strap from coming off easily. It is not a place where the sound is affected, and if you use a strap a lot, it might be a good idea to add a new strap pin. Other than that, if you look closely, you can find a few minor scratches, but it remains in almost new condition. There are a few short scratches on the top of the body, but they are not of any concern, as they are more noticeable than the surface scratches characteristic of Gibson's paint job. There is a 2mm scratch on the back of the body near the end of the 6th string side.

Other than the strap pin hole, there are no other parts of the guitar that are of concern.

The neck is in good condition and generally straight. The current string height is 2.6mm on the 6th string side and 2.0mm on the 1st string side at the 12th fret, which is the best setting. There is still room in the saddle, so further fine tuning of string height is possible. The frets have some string marks on the low frets, but even at the lowest point, more than 90% of the original height remains.

You can enjoy the stately Gibson look and the killer tone of this guitar!
