The Junkers Ju 88 was a German World War II Luftwaffe twin-engine multirole combat aircraft. Designed by Junkers Aircraft and Motor Works (JFM) in the mid-1930s, it was intended as a Schnellbomber ("fast bomber") that would outpace the fighters of its time. Despite initial technical difficulties in its development and early operational phases, it emerged as one of the most adaptable combat aircraft of the war. Serving various roles like other Luftwaffe bombers, it functioned as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter, torpedo bomber, reconnaissance plane, heavy fighter, and ultimately, as a flying bomb towards the war's end.
