Ellen Von UNWERTH - Petticoat Millemont 2006
Old Authentic Original Drawing Offset Print
Size: 18.4 cm x 27 cm
Print made by a former art printer - Archival model Printer
four-color printing enhanced with a glossy varnish
This is a print that the printer had archived as a color reference model, and laminated to a support so that it can be preserved over time.
A wonderful testimony to traditional art printing
which unfortunately has completely disappeared today.
Remarkable print, close to a photograph, brilliant, very luminous, with beautiful density colors.
Its contrasting rendering, as well as its definition with sharp details, is absolutely magnificent.
This unpublished print was found deep in an assembly workshop in the archive lockers of a former art printing house, carefully preserved flat and protected from light in an envelope. It remained in good state of conservation. Presence of traces of dirt and marks on the back due to manipulations by the printer. However, the front is intact, in perfect condition and of remarkable shine.
This copy was kept by the printer to serve as references for its calibration and coloring on the machine during reprints.
In 2006, Ellen von Unwerth chose a picturesque place far from Paris, the small village of Millemont in the countryside, to quietly produce a photographic series, including this image, that of a young woman lying on the grass, contorting herself, producing a unique acrobatics.
Whether her models are naked, adorned with lingerie or with a dazzling smile, she creates a new world of femininity, made of playfulness and fetishism where her subjects are sometimes exhibited, sometimes reserved, but are never objects of their fantasies . Perfectly alternating color and black and white, her photos are sensual, feminine, romantic, sometimes she mixes kitsch humor, decadence as well as joie de vivre.
She masters the art of photographing beautiful women, revealing their fantasies and her own, she pays homage to those who are the most attractive and famous, she penetrates moments with both the sexiest female icons and unknown ones, by Claudia Schiffer to Kate Moss, from Vanessa Paradis to Britney Spears, from Carla Bruni to Monica Bellucci.
She is the shooting star of erotic photography, the most exciting woman who has conquered the world with her opportunely unusual photographs. The secret fantasies she draws from her models are associated with the mixture of wit, impertinence and playfulness characteristic of her work.
Ex model, ex dream body, today she has moved to the other side of the lens, she becomes a symbol of “Girl Power” at the end of the 1990s. The camera is the power to entertain, to undo her hair and let her joy explode. But what she seeks above all is to relax, to distance herself from the polished photos and the strict rules of the fashion series she produces for Vogue, Interview or Vanity Fair magazines.
Ellen von Unwerth world-renowned photographer specializing in charming artistic photos. His style is recognizable by its grain, its tight framing, the bright colors, the shadows, or the blacks and whites of great energy which offer a different and original look at fashion, women and the nude.
His “Revenge” series, which has become a classic of the genre, shows great mastery and subtlety in the treatment of photography.
What is certain is that working with Ellen, says Eva Herzigova, “is always fun because she lets you be free in front of the camera and it’s never vulgar even if it’s very sexy.”
Her strength is the spontaneity that she retained when she was a model. Her motto is that life reveals its best side in unexpected ways and that is how she is surprised to the highest degree in the most revealing moments. His images are often erotic, imbued with the inspiration of role-playing games, but always with a touch of irony. She manages to express what only a woman knows about another woman and what she can hide, and if it's about sex, for her, it's even better.
At first glance, the characters who take part in this very eroticized expression of photography explicitly highlight an attachment to the world of fantasy. The costumes that predominate in the daring photos show protagonists wearing latex in flashy tones, rabbit ears, poodle ears, or even outfits reminiscent of snakes, birds and horses.
Atypical, Ellen demonstrates a real desire to innovate, to focus on moments that are both eccentric and playful. Far from giving the idea of imprisoned animals, the photographer's muses proudly display their provocative, mischievous and sexy side. The photographer constantly seeks to evoke and capture the hidden identity of her model.
“I am fascinated by individuals and by stories in general. Above all, it’s the people I meet who inspire me that push me to slip behind my camera every day. These are also the stories that I would like to tell, inspired by real life, but also by films and paintings. As a photographer, I often move between the past, present and future. » Ellen Von Unwerth
